The Wold Newton Triangle, located in East Yorkshire, is a region that has gained notoriety for its high concentration of paranormal phenomena. This area, named after the village of Wold Newton, is often considered to be one of the spookiest regions in all of Britain.
One theory behind the high level of paranormal activity in this area is that it was triggered by the United Kingdom’s largest meteorite strike, which occurred in 1795 and is believed to have impacted close to the junction of five ley lines.
Reports of paranormal events are more common in the UK than in many other areas of comparable size on Earth. The Wold Newton Triangle, in particular, is known for its high number of werewolf sightings.
One well-known account tells of a lorry driver who, in the 1960s, saw a pair of red eyes in the mist while driving along a remote road in the Wolds. Moments later, a “wolf-like creature” attempted to smash its way through the driver’s windscreen.
This account is just one example of the strange happenings that have been reported within the World Newton Triangle. Some suggest that the area’s history of wolf sightings may be linked to the fact that it was once infested with wolves. Up until the 18th century, a bounty was offered for the killing of wolves in the region.
Due to their reputation for digging up corpses from graveyards, wolves were sometimes believed to be supernatural beings, taking the form of werewolves. The legend of a werewolf named Old Stinker, a large hairy beast with red eyes and bad breath, is another well-known tale from the World Newton Triangle.
Despite reports of a sighting of Old Stinker outside of the triangle in 2016, the majority of the region’s paranormal activity is said to occur within its borders. This includes sightings of zombies, fairies, dragons, and a phantom river known as the Waters of Woe.
The concentration of the uncanny in the World Newton Triangle is a mystery that has puzzled many. While some believe that it may be explained by the meteorite strike and the presence of ley lines in the area, others have their own theories.
Some suggest that the region’s rich history and folklore may play a role, while others believe that there may be a more supernatural explanation. Whatever the cause, the World Newton Triangle remains a fascinating and eerie corner of the world, full of strange and unexplained phenomena.
